Officials have given final approval to plans for the Solow Development on the old Con Ed Site, First Ave. between 35th and 41st Sts. After weeks of negotiations and years of hard work by SAC, Turtle Bay and local officials, the developer agreed to significant changes in the project. The overall plan was cut by over 500,000 sq. feet, the heights of the buildings were drastically reduced, half the site will be dedicated to open space and there will be public waterfront space. The proposed office building was cut by almost 25% and significant steps are prescribed to reduce and mitigate increases in traffic. There will also be a k-8 school and incentives for moderate and middle income housing. It's a victory for SAC and for our neighborhood.
